1st Week of Egypt: September 10-17

Oh the wonders of Egypt! It was quite a ride from Tel Aviv, Israel to Cairo, Egypt. We stopped in Athens, Greece for two hours. This was an overnight flight that turned out to be quite long and drowsy for everyone. We all thought we’d have a day of rest but turned out that we had a full day touring the Egyptian Museum!
The museum was wonderful. It was filled with statues as small as a mouse and as tall as a building! We learned about the Egyptians creation story, history, and progression from our great tour guide.

Our second day in Egypt we went to the great pyramids in Giza! They were massive! As great as they were, the inside was rather narrow and small. We also visited a huge boat from the Cheops Boat Museum. It has been well preserved and is quite beautiful. Then almost everyone went camel riding. The camels were very tall. They were also friendly. We were able to take lots of pictures with camels and the pyramids.

On our third day we visited Memphis and Saqqara. We got to see more beautiful ancient places, tombs and such. Finally we arrived at the American University in Cairo where we will be staying for the month. Everyone was excited to finally settle down and do laundry! We all did some grocery shopping and was able to rest.
Our fourth and fifth day we were filled with eight lectures back-to-back, four on each day. They were exhausting but we learned a lot more about the history of Egypt. We also had our first quiz of the trip!
Finally on the sixth day we rested. All day we each ventured out to the malls and restaurants surrounding the campus. Some of us stayed in and enjoyed some air conditioning. You better believe that Egypt is HOT!

On the last day of our first week in Egypt we toured the city of Cairo and got to see all of Cairo. We finished the afternoon with two lectures on Islam and had our first movie and pizza night. Everyone decided on watching Indiana Jones and the Lost Ark. We were grateful we made it through the first week of Egypt.
